There are just under 2 dozen races throughout a season, with races all around the world – including famous races such as Autodromo Nazionale di Monza and Circuit de Monaco.
The cars raced are open-wheel, open-cockpit, single-seat race cars. Drivers race on various track types, including city circuits like the one in Las Vegas, aiming to complete the course in the fastest time. There is no set number of laps, but circuits are typically 2.5-4 miles long, and the total length of the race must be a minimum of 190 miles. The race cannot last longer than two hours.
Points are allocated based on the final standings, with the leading 10 participants receiving points that contribute to both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships. With a race victory, a driver accumulates 25 points, benefiting both their personal score and their team’s overall season total. Second place secures 18 points, followed by 15 for third place, 12 for fourth, 10 for fifth, 8 for sixth, 6 for seventh, 4 for eighth, 2 for ninth, and 1 for the tenth spot. Additionally, an extra point is earned by the driver who achieves the fastest lap during the Grand Prix, as long as they are within the top 10 finishers.
Las Vegas Formula Racing Information
The Las Vegas Grand Prix is set to take place from November 21-23. The race will be held on a street circuit that weaves through the city, passing iconic landmarks such as the Bellagio Fountains and the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas. The track is 3.8 miles long, featuring 50 laps, 17 turns, and 2 drag reduction system (DRS) zones. Speeds are expected to get up to 215 mph. A host of teams, including powerhouses like Mercedes and Red Bull, will be participating, bringing star drivers such as Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, and Lewis Hamilton.
